Modern Day Fleet Services
In the context of modern day business, it is necessary for a fleet operator to raise the bar of fleet business solutions above that provided by his/her competitors. Fleet operations have witnessed rapid growth and competition. Fleet operators have introduced additional services to cater to market demand and to expand the services provided by their fleet services operation. There are numerous fleet vehicle services which are provided by these fleet operators. Some of them are:
* Door-to-door pickup and delivery of goods: The fleet operator offer services such as door-to-door pick up and delivery of goods to reduce customer's transportation hassles. * Satellite based mobile communication: The fleet vehicle service operator also renders services for the tracking of goods using the Global Positioning System (GPS) or radio-based tracking software. This again helps the customer to know the geographical location of his/her goods in the fleet vehicle. The fleet operator may also provide mobile-based communication via satellites to help the customer with tracking details. This can be useful in the case of delayed goods delivery. * Total Logistics: The fleet operators provide complete logistical solutions such as the pickup and delivery of goods, assistance for creating invoices for shipping and airplane services, rendering mobile-based communication, providing fleet vehicles, and all ancillary fleet-related support and knowledge. This is definitely a benefit for customers who want superior transportation solutions. * Warehousing: Some fleet operators also provide their customers with the ability to leave their goods protected in the operator's warehouses for retrieval at a later date. This relieves the customers from the tension of storing goods at their manufacturing operation. The goods can be transported under the directions of the customer. The fleet operator charges a nominal fee for providing this service. * Inter modal services: This refers to a combination of two or more modes of transportation provided by the fleet operators during the transportation process. This is primarily used to describe transportation by ship, airplane or train for a portion of the transportation process and depends on the final location of delivery. * Route rescheduling: The services provided by fleet operators also include rescheduling the movement of fleet vehicles as per the instructions received from the customer. At times the customer or the receiver of goods may change plans and communicate this to the operator. The fleet company, in turn, transmits the changed itinerary information to the fleet vehicle support staff which can then make the necessary amendments to the delivery plan. The role of fleet services is evolving in response to market demands and advances in technology. It can be expected that this will continue in the upcoming years. |
